the byrds were one of the earliest groups who could combine the best of two worlds. they caught on to the energy of the british invasion and combined it with the lyricism & musical elements of the contemporary folk movement.
along the way they pioneered psychedelic and country rock, always keeping things recognizable with their vocal harmonies accompanied by their jangly guitars.
on their third album >fifth dimension< from 1966 they started showing a more lsd-tinged side of themselves with the psychedelic rock of songs such as >eight miles high< and >i see you< and a preference for the indian raga.

the second edition of the mosso series adheres to its archetypal plan, as alejandro mosso leads us forwards on his musical trek and through the grooves carved onto this record. for this new number, alejandro mosso decided to delve back into his archives and take a closer listen to some forgotten, unfinished pieces. some listeners will surely recognise certain bits of this record as they were part of mossos live performance years ago. this is however the first time they will be edited and see the light of day. on the a-side, aconcagua is a festive theme on which a magnetic marimba riff turns into an escalating melody, surrounded by a forest of ascending percussions - characteristic of mossos production � lightly floating around it. cashmere, the flip, was conceived while airborne on a flying carpet, half way above the indian subcontinent and below the countles gleaming stars. perfect instance of alejandro mossos talent, it is a subtle blend of hovering winds and crystallized textures. the bansuri flute and the clave go hand in hand to form reassuring horizons, the soundtrack for a longer moment of hope, greater perspective and spiritual transformation.

seven 7inches in seven months - hamburg s pingipung label surprises fans and music lovers with a vinyl series called summer of seven. from april to october 2011 one single each month will bring on the longest summer hamburg has ever seen. featuring fresh, unreleased, single-quality tracks by the pingipung artists springintgut, peter presto, hey, aj holmes, goto80, iso68, and james dina4. the artwork comes from c.i.alex (golden pudel club hamburg). each release is strictly limited to 200 copies! two straight bouncers from andi otto aka springintgut open the series. after touring through india last winter, he brought home some antique vinyl records with south indian string music. these have been micro-sampled for the tracks, overdubbed with his own cello playing and a drum machine. two odes to the animals in bangalore, the eagles above, and the dogs underneath.

after a lengthy break from the electronic music world, genotype is back with an lp for exit records and provides a lesson in stripped back dub influenced music at approximately 170 bpm. having started his music career in the mid nineties under the legendary alias just jungle, with releases on the massively influential labels of that era such as trouble on vinyl, renegade hardware and reinforced records, its no surprise that he has managed to capture the essence of rawness in his recent music akin to the early years of jungle. many producers have tried and failed to bring back the old skool sound with an original flavor but genotype has managed this by resisting the temptation to lash in the tired old classic breaks and instead has drawn for the more organic sounding percussion and drum kits. the dubbed out theme runs throughout the album paying homage to his love for west indian music which he has been involved in for many years and naturally influences the music he creates. genotype is a man of few words and prefers to let his music do the talking so check out the album and draw your own conclusions.

after leaving behind the somalian pirates, geiom is cruising the sunny waters of the indian ocean when he picks up a distress signal on his scanner. he follows the signal until he locates a tiny remote island and a guy called bowly, who said that he was on his way from france to the new world, but got totally lost. judging by the age of the map he was using its easy to see how. bowly spent his time on the island hanging out with the locals who amuse themselves by creating a unique style of music on some amazing handcrafted instruments. geiom helps bowly get on his way again, and leaves him with a more useful map. some months later, bowly beams over his music as a gift from his new found homeland in canada ? the tracks are like some strange mutation of those distant tropical players and the uk-based pirate radio transmissions that bowly has been tuning into ? geiom loves the result and decides to send them straight over to transition in london for mastering and release on berkane sol. this 12 has been getting played by selectors like ? subswara crew nyc (soul motive), brackles (rinsefm), grevious angel (soul jazz), martin kemp (blunted robots), cooly g (hyperdub), shortstuff (ramp), spamchop (wigflex), oneman (rinsefm)?

drums have been discovered in almost every part of the world. drums first appeared, however, in excavation from the neolithic era. the oldest recorded drum is from 6000 bc. mesopotamian ruins contain small cylindrical drums that are as old as 3000 bc. egyptian tombs have yielded small drums used for ceremonies. several caves in peru contain wall markings depicting drums in various aspects of societal life. it is strongly suspected that indian drums from the middle east are as old as 5000 bc. the american indians used a series of wood and gourd drums for their celebrations and some of these drums are still used in ceremonies today. drums were not always used for music. in africa, where music is simply an interpretation of everyday life in sound, drums were used as speech. simply a pattern of beats played in a certain way could communicate vast amounts of information. jeff mills creates the drummer (pm-022). 6 track 12 vinyl ep. mills communicates through only a classic roland tr-808 drum machine, exclusively made for the purpose maker/axis. each track dedicated for the masters of the art form of drumming like: neil peart, billy cobham, buddy rich and others, mills explores how drum patterns and rhythms remain communicative on a higher level that has endured through evolution of humanity.

permanent vacation are delighted to bring you the second chapter of the first space oddities saga compiled by alexis le-tan (music journalist and member of the tigersushi bass system) and jess (formerly of the famed french house duo jess & crabbe and now drummer for punk band 10lec6). the pair met in 2001 through a mutual love of no-wave and leftfield disco. in 2003 jess came upon a big collection of library music, which he bought for next to nothing. whilst he was ciphering through it and finding the most interesting extracts, alexis was digging in all things cosmic, where along the way he also started to pick up many bits and pieces of obscure mood musics. in 2007, they put together some of their best space disco treasures giving birth to the highly acclaimed space oddities project released last july. as the first episode of space oddities was reaching to an end and following the amazing feedback they received, the parisian duo started working on the next volume in the heat of 2008�s sunny days. a new direction was chosen: more organic, guitar lead and psychedelic than the previous one, still focusing on the dancefloor and their love for freaky synths and fierce beats.
